According to the FBI a woman is battered every 15 seconds

WHY?

Why do we stay with the people who HURT us the most?

Most people don’t understand this concept to staying

And I’m here to tell you why women keep praying

That you’ll understand

I didn’t do anything to make you treat me so CHEAPLY?

What did I do to make you so angry that you had the right to beat me?

I wanted to SCREAM and FIGHT you and run for the door,

You broke me down and yet I still wanted more,

Towards the end of everything I fix myself in the mirror

Tell myself I’m not broken

My trademark smile is in the perfect place

My sadness is no longer on my face

I try to leave but something makes me stay

Because...

I love him so much

I can’t find the strength

To walk right out the door

The cycle begins and           … I want more

He tells me that he’s sorry

And even starts to cry

Yet I find I still forgive him

And tell him everything is fine

And repeat my day as if nothing happened

And pretend I can get over, say I don’t care

But surviving is just the beginning to this long and endless nightmare

To conclude what I am saying it’s not always easy to leave

The ones who have our hearts have them for a reason

But you are strong and you are brave

I encourage you to step out of the dark cave

And stand above the hand

That has hurt you so much

And take that hand in your clutch

You are in control now

Can’t you see

Stand above the hand

And you’ll be free
